More than 40 years after he was tortured, felled by Russian roulette and machine-gunned to death, our greatly-loved

Victor Jara, Joan his wife, and Manuela and Amanda, their daughters, have finally received the beginnings of justice.

As Joan says, “It’s the beginning of justice for all those people, those relatives in Chile who are waiting to learn the fate of their loved ones, who have been for years and years, just like us, seeking justice [and] knowledge.

“It’s been a long journey. For Victor, art and social justice were one and the same. His songs continue to be sung today and inspire both artists and those who seek social justice.”

That other stalwart of true democracy, Margaret Thatcher, went for tea with"my friend", Gen. Augusto Pinochet, briefly held in London  in a vain attempt to charge him with the crimes of his dictatorship - among them the torture, deaths and disappearances of Victor and thousands more.
