STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF NICARAGUA IN THE HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL;
INTERACTIVE DIALOGUE ON THE HIGH COMMISSIONER'S PERIODIC UPDATE ON NICARAGUA

Excellency Mr. Václav Bálek, President of the United Nations Human Rights Council,
Excellency Mr. Volker Turk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights;
Ladies and gentlemen representatives of the Member States, valued Representatives of International Organizations and Observers,
The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of Nicaragua, once again and as always with FIRMNESS and DIGNITY, reiterates its TOTAL REJECTION of the already malicious and persistent use of this so-called "oral update" mechanism, the sole purpose of which is to harm our Sovereignty and Independence.
We have already denounced and will not tire in continuing to do so, the harmful aims of the reports that this mechanism prepares regarding Human Rights in our Country; with skewed, biased and subjective information, and that only seeks to distort our purpose of fully achieving the common good and peace for our Nation, as fundamental pillars of true Human Rights.
This update continues to be unfounded, with inputs gathered from certain groups that, working from a shared script, attempt to manipulate the reality of our country, seeking to impose upon us the economic interests of the imperialist countries, which insist on belittling and attacking us, in order to maintain their interventionist position.
We do not accept that this mechanism of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights continues to act with a clear political bias and lack of objectivity, thus violating the principles of equality between countries: democracy and transparency, which are embodied in the Charter of the United Nations.
For this reason we demand that this organization reassume the principles for which it was created, which is to encourage real, equal and effective protection of Human Rights for all, without distinction or discrimination, within the framework of respect for our identity, our dignity, our idiosyncrasy and moreover, our sovereignty.
It is necessary that this forum empowers itself with its responsibilities, recognizing and respecting the right of the peoples of the world to make their own decisions and to live in Peace, with Sovereignty and Humane Consideration.
