In the face of ongoing global turmoil, we find ourselves at a critical juncture, where silence is complicity and action is imperative. We stand in solidarity with the oppressed, the voiceless, and the marginalized. We understand that the ongoing U.S supported violence in Palestine as well as the U.S imposed sanctions in the Americas are haunting echoes of misguided foreign policies reflecting a disturbing pattern of contempt for human life and complete disregard for international law..
In the Americas, the imposition of sanctions, combined with hybrid warfare interventions in countries like Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, has led to deaths of innocent people, widespread suffering, emigration, and billions of dollars in asset theft. These sanctions violate international and humanitarian law, disrupting elected governments' efforts to provide access to essential resources, and causing immeasurable pain.
Americas Without Sanctions is not just an event; it's a movement – a collective call to end the suffering caused by policies that prioritize power over people. This initiative started by Friends of Latin America can use your support virtually and in-person.
We particularly need people who can come in person on Thursday, October 26 to Congress to meet with representatives to help stop sanctions bills against any of these three countries—Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela. There will also be an informative briefing at 9:00am in the Cannon House Office building, with FoLA’s own Professor Richard Kohn as one of the expert speakers.

The US government has imposed economic coercive measures (sanctions) on progressive or leftist governments in Latin America, contrary to international and humanitarian law. Combined with hybrid warfare interventions in Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela, the measures are responsible for mass deaths, suffering, emigration, and billions of dollars in asset theft. They violate human rights by disrupting elected governments in their efforts to provide citizen access to food, medicines, fuel, and sanitation supplies.
