TO FOLLOW-UP FINANCING FOR DEVELOPMENT

Thank You Very Much Madam President,
1. Nicaragua associates itself with the speech delivered by Uganda on behalf of the G77+China Group and thanks the preparation and convening of the Financing for Development Forum under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council.
2. Today we continue to face the ravages of the crises produced primarily by the current capitalist, selfish and inhuman financial model that every day undermines the development of our peoples, increasing ever more extreme poverty, more hunger and more inequality in the world.
3. The creation of a new Multipolar International Economic Model is a matter of urgency along with reform of the financial architecture in favor of policies aimed at true cooperation, actions that provide more financing and access to developing countries to accelerate towards and fully comply with the 2030 Agenda.
4. Financing is crucial to enable the realization of actions in the field of development, the international financial systems must provide greater access in an equitable and inclusive way, supporting the provision of resources and investments, likewise, developed countries must comply with binding commitments they acquired in relation to official development assistance.
5. It is undeniable and well-known that when we talk about financing for development, we cannot underestimate, set aside, much less exclude more than 2 billion people in more than 40 countries who suffer every day from the impacts of the application of illegal terrorist Unilateral Coercive Measures and the obstacles they put towards accessing loans and viable projects in International Financial Institutions, for developing countries that are trying to implement the 2030 Agenda, especially the eradication of poverty.
6. It is also worrying that, instead of decreasing, this policy of imposing sanctions, every day the imperialists and neo-colonialists increase them, and apply them to even more countries. These sanctions are incompatible and a contradiction with what the forum for Financing for Development is and therefore they should be eliminated immediately.
7. We also point out that in the arms race, global military spending in 2023 was US$2.24 trillion, when by just reducing 20% of that spending, many more financial resources would be available annually to developing countries and thus give a greater boost to the Sustainable Development Goals.
8. Solidarity must prevail with the millions of human beings in the world, subjected to the cruelty of poverty, the political commitment of developed countries is necessary to intensify efforts towards the full implementation of Addis Ababa Action Agenda on financing for development.

9. We reaffirm Nicaragua's commitment to our Development Model focused on the reduction of poverty and inequality, on multilateralism, international law, on the affirmation, exercise and defense of our sovereignty, and on relations of equality, based on friendship, mutual respect, cooperation and solidarity.
