Subject: Evaluation of the status of implementation of the Programme of Action of the International Conference on Population and Development and its contribution to the follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development during the decade of action and results for sustainable development.

Thank you very much Madam President,
1. Nicaragua associates itself with the statement delivered by Belarus on behalf of the Group of Friends of the Family and we congratulate you and the members of the Bureau on your election, as well as on the preparation of this session of the Commission on Population and Development.
2. Our developing Countries are making great efforts to implement the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals, however, all over the world, both between and within countries, inequality gaps and multiple environmental, social and economic crises which have an impact on the life expectancy of our peoples, on access to the right to development, on education and, most importantly, on the reduction of extreme poverty, must be overcome.
3. It is vital to strengthen and expand capacities to understand and consider demographic dynamics and their link with the development of society and education, as well as to increase international cooperation and create action-oriented policies that provide more financing and access to developing countries so that they can achieve full compliance with the 2030 Agenda and its Sustainable Development Goals.
4. Nicaragua advocates the promotion and inclusion of national policies that restore the economic, social and cultural rights of our Peoples, in order to effectively achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in the 2030 Agenda, without the imposition of illegal, unjust and corrosive unilateral coercive measures, we reiterate, they are illegal sanctions that do not contribute to our efforts in fulfilling the SDGs and must be eliminated.
5. It is necessary to intensify commitments in the field of health and education as a fundamental human right. We need a solid and multipolar multilateralism to build more sustainable, equitable societies, without exclusions or distinctions.

6. Starting in 2007, Nicaragua began the construction of a new development model, in coherence with the Historical Program of the Sandinista National Liberation Front, focused on the reduction of poverty and inequalities, on the progressive improvement of the living conditions of all Nicaraguan families, in particular, those in the most precarious situation, as well as the generation of employment, the promotion and facilitation of investments, and the protection of our natural resources.
7. We emphasize that, among the first public policies implemented, has been the restitution of the right to free public education for everyone, at all levels, today we can say that Nicaragua is a nation with knowledge and Nicaraguans are the living testimony of that knowledge.
8. In Nicaragua, our projects and programs are aimed at putting an end to the discrimination, exclusion and marginalization that prevents Nicaraguan families from fully and universally exercising their political, social, economic and cultural rights, such as access to credit, health, education, social protection and cultural development.

9. We reaffirm Nicaragua's commitment to reducing poverty and inequality, working based on our Principles and Values of Patriotism, Solidarity, Vocation to Service, Unity, Gender Equity, and on our own Path towards a Better, Just and Humane World, we are convinced that the same is possible for all peoples.
