Remarks by Compañera Rosario, Vice President of Nicaragua,
after the Act in Commemoration of the 45th Anniversary of the Nicaraguan Army

Good Evening, Beloved Families. A celebration that overwhelms us. It is easy to say, as we have always commented, 45 Years, but how much sacrifice that means, how much commitment, how much Vocation of Service, of Construction, of Love, of Peace. How much we have had to strive, and above all, how much we identify with our own history, with that gigantic Dignity of Nicaragua's women and men.
As we begin these days, and this day in particular, our Hearts and Memories are filled with all that we have lived, our Hearts and Memories with all those who have fallen for this Blessed Cause, for this Nicaragua of Ours, Blessed and Always Proud, Dignified, Glorious and Honorable.
That's why I always say that I think, these are days that, in some way, seem contradictory, because on the one hand we celebrate the Joy of arriving here today, and arriving furthermore with Health, each one of us, with Life, with Vitality, with Horizons, building a Future, but also on the other hand, it saddens us when we think of so many Nicaraguans who have been sacrificed by the world's Powers. Because it is those Powers that have generated here the conflicts, the wars, the disturbances, and it is those Powers which are responsible for so much pain and so much crime that we have suffered and that Nicaragua's families have suffered.
Because when we talk about more than a million dead, dedicated to building a Real Life in Nicaragua, Brothers and Sisters with the gigantic Nobility, we have inherited, because we come from something which is Epic: The ability of Nicaraguan men and women never to surrender; when we listened to the the compañeros and compañeras in clandestinity, people who did not expect to see the Triumph and yet fought for the Triumph to come... Such commitment!
That is to say, these are Epic Battles that transcend each of us, because we put our Faith, Trust, Heart, Hope, in those Better Times for our People.
Today we do have Better Times, General Avilés was talking about Sandino's Vision of Extraordinary Times. An Extraordinary People, with an Extraordinary History, how could they not but deserve to live through Extraordinary Times.
That is how we all know that in order to live up to that Greatness, which is congruent with the Spiritual Greatness of the Nicaraguan People, and when we talk about Greatness, we are talking about Well Being and getting out of Poverty, to live up to that it is essential to never forget where we came from, everything that it has cost us, and where we are going, as an invariable goal, the Well Being of all Families, because it is what Nicaragua's People and its Families deserve.
I believe that our the Treasure of Our Patrimony, Peace, that they have always wanted to take from us, is what we must defend every day, to continue building this Country of Human Beings and Families so that we not only become more and more aware of the value of Harmony, Peace, and the Life we deserve, without subordination, without slavery, without submission to the Imperialists of the Earth who are the ones who have always wanted to destroy us.
We believe these Better Times are the Work of thousands, hundreds of thousands of Nicaraguans, such that this Anniversary of the Nicaraguan Army is also a celebration of the fighting capacity of the Sandinista National Liberation Front, of the Sandinista Guerrillas, of the Sandinista Generals, of everything that we are.
That is our Glorious, Honorable Identity, and it is also the Future, because recognizing where we come from, we know where we are going, prioritizing our Identity, our Dignity, our History, our Memory, and our Glory for the Future we are creating.
A warm embrace to all our Families, to the Families of our Brothers and Sisters of the Nicaraguan Army, and to all Nicaragua's Families, because every Triumph belongs to Nicaragua's Families, to the People of Nicaragua... Triumphs of Peace, Triumphs of Well Being, and Triumphs of the Unyielding Struggles of Nicaragua's People. Thank you Compañeras and Compañeros.
