NICARAGUA'S STATEMENT IN THE
GENERAL DEBATE ON
THE SITUATION IN THE MIDDLE EAST
December 3rd 2024.
General Assembly, New York
Mr. President,
1. Nicaragua expresses its deep concern about the situation in the Middle East region, plagued by violence, interference in internal affairs, foreign aggression and long-lasting conflicts and the situation in Palestine, the heart of the conflict in that region.
2. We condemn the brutal Israeli aggression against Lebanon and the repeated Israeli attacks on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic, which constitute clear aggression against the territories of sovereign States and a flagrant violation of the provisions of international law and the Charter of the United Nations.
3. Nicaragua expresses its firm Solidarity with the Peoples and Governments of Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Iran and the Arab world, in the midst of the escalation of violence and conflicts plaguing the region.
4. The constant aggression of the State of Israel in the Middle East Region only demonstrates more and more clearly its total disregard for International Law, International Humanitarian Law and the Purposes and Principles of the Charter of the United Nations, causing greater instability in the security of the Region and the World.
5. The numerous violations of international law, in particular humanitarian and human rights law, committed by Israel, the occupying Power, in the context of the foreign military occupation of the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem, and the Syrian Golan since 1967, are still in effect to this day and have increased alarmingly.
Mr. President,
6. The Security Council must take concrete steps to put an end to this historical injustice by urgently ending Israel's occupation of Palestinian and other Arab territories since 1967.
7. Faced with the atrocities they deploy and impose with such cynicism, arrogance and brazenness daily; faced with the infinite cruelty, extreme hatred and barbaric way in which they despise the entire world and our Institutions and Peoples which have always denounced such Regimes that launch themselves against everything and everyone, in permanent genocide; faced with such crimes, without saying any more, we join the World's cry to stop this new holocaust that threatens to spread and to generate more destruction, massacre, aberration and death.
8. Our Hearts are in solidarity with all those Peoples and Governments who today are facing new waves of slaughter and unforgivable attempts at extermination.
9. In the last 14 months we have witnessed the growing ideological and cultural perversion, the imperialist, unipolar, exclusionary and racist thinking accompanied by an irrational deployment of military force seeking to impose its neocolonial will.
10. Nicaragua continues in its firm determination to continue condemning all the crimes against humanity of Zionism and its allies in the Western World and we stand in solidarity with the Heroic Peoples of Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Iran, and the entire Dignified Arab World that today is experiencing a repetition of the brutality and savagery of war and all its aberrations.
11. We also reaffirm our total solidarity with the Palestinian People and demand immediate respect for a ceasefire, as well as the protection of the population in Palestine, without double standards and in equal conditions as human beings, valuing lives in the same way for all.
Mr. President,
12. It is imperative that the United States put an end to its policy of exclusion and obstruction in the Security Council and allow an immediate ceasefire, without conditions and accept the application of the State of Palestine as a Full Member of the United Nations.
13. Given the current circumstances, the holding of an International Conference to end the occupation of all Palestinian and Arab territories occupied by Israel is a priority. The realization of these two initiatives is a vital step for peace in the Middle East.
14. The International Community as a whole must continue to contribute to the progressive disappearance of unipolar hegemonism, strengthening multipolarity in a Just, Equitable World, with Peace, Security, Stability, Development and Progress for Humanity and for all the Peoples of the World.
15. We reiterate that peace in the Middle East implies a solution to the Palestinian Question, the withdrawal of Israel from Lebanon, the Syrian Golan Heights, and all occupied Arab territories. Likewise, it is imperative to put an end to foreign interference and intervention in the region in order to finally achieve a Middle East of Peace and Security.
16. We also reject any measures which use force to exercise jurisdiction and administration in all the occupied Palestinian and Arab territories.
17. Nicaragua will continue to support the demand of the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic to recover the Golan Heights, and we demand once again the total and unconditional withdrawal of Israel from the Syrian Golan and all occupied Arab territories.
18. We reiterate that any measure or action that has been taken or is about to be taken in order to modify the legal, physical and demographic condition and the institutional structure of the occupied Syrian Golan, as well as Israel's measures to exercise its jurisdiction and administration in that territory, constitute violations of international law, international agreements, the Charter and United Nations resolutions, as well as being a challenge to the international community.
Mr. President,
19. In relation to the situation generated in recent days by International Terrorism which has intensified its attacks against the Sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic, Nicaragua condemns and rejects these actions which once again put at risk so many who have suffered, and are suffering, the brutal abuses of well-known terrorist organizations.
20. We are sure that reason will prevail and the Combative People of the Sister Syrian Arab Republic will know how to transcend these dangerous moments, fighting Courageously, as they have been able to do, to completely defeat Machiavellian attempts to dominate the well-known Courage of those Peoples via terrorist cruelty.
Mr. President,
21. There is a need for a comprehensive, just and lasting solution to the question of the city of Jerusalem that takes into account the legitimate concerns of the parties, as well as bearing in mind that legislation, jurisdiction and administration imposed by Israel, whether in Jerusalem or in the occupied Syrian Golan, are not only actions which are null and void actions, but also constitute obstacles to the peace process.
22. The People and Government of Nicaragua reiterate their unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people, based on a clear and unequivocal position of principle, in favor of self-determination and the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian State, on the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and as a full member of the United Nations.
23. Nicaragua reaffirms that multilateralism and diplomacy provide the tools to reach a just and lasting solution to the conflicts in the Middle East region. Such a solution cannot be unilateral, imposed by force and unjust, especially on the basis of double standards. It is time to move from rhetoric to action, and to demand from this General Assembly concrete and immediate actions from Israel.
