Mr. President:
The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of the Republic of Nicaragua cordially greets you, on occasion of referring to the self-styled “Report of the Group of Experts on Human Rights on Nicaragua” included in Item 2 of the Agenda: Annual Report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and Reports of the Office of the High Commissioner and the Secretary-General, at the 58th session of the Human Rights Council that began on February 24th, 2025.
Once again, the Human Rights Council has violated its own regulations contained in Resolution 62/51 adopted on March 15th 2006 during the sixtieth regular session, which established the principles of objectivity, impartiality and non-selectivity in the examination of human rights issues and the obligation to eliminate the use of double standards and politicization.
The report of the self-styled Group of Experts, which Nicaragua does not recognize, nor the previous reports, declarations, communiqués and updates of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, are evidence of the double standards and politicization of each one of these mechanisms, which daily instrumentalize Human rights, exploiting them as a pretext to interfere in the internal affairs of States and disrespect Sovereignty.
These mechanisms constitute not only truly politicized methods and platforms to discredit the work of the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of the Republic of Nicaragua for the consolidation of Peace and Security, but they also obstruct the economic and social development of the Nicaraguan People by seeking to impede progress in education, health, housing, infrastructure, food security, energy, water and sanitation, among other areas.
The self-styled Group of Experts, the Office of the High Commissioner and the Human Rights Council have become an echo chamber for those who attacked our country’s Peace and tranquility, who are the authors of multiple murders, kidnappings, rapes, aberrations and outrages against Nicaragua’s people, and who also caused unquantifiable destruction and damage to the national economy, being the very same ones who today celebrate and promote the imposition of unilateral coercive measures that the UN General Assembly has condemned, and declared illegal because they violate international law.
Mr. President,
For Nicaragua, these disrespectful mechanisms have abandoned their nature and essence, so we do not recognize them, since we do not contemplate being party to and accomplice of outrages against Sovereignty, the equality of States and the dignity of Peoples. For this reason, Nicaragua transmits its sovereign and irrevocable decision to withdraw from the Human Rights Council and too from all activities related to this Council and all its satellite mechanisms.
