TO THE PEOPLE OF COSTA RICA
In the past, the People of Nicaragua have known the Brother and Sisterhood and the Solidarity of the People of Costa Rica, whose expressions of affection and support at different times of National and Regional Struggle have been evident and encouraging along the Paths of the Battles and Victories of our Patriotic Nation and of our Region.
In emphasizing the Courage of Costa Rican Governments in other moments and the often decisive attitude of fraternal companionship of Costa Rica’s Families, we want to highlight the painful difference between those historic, noble and courageous circumstances, and these other days which exhibit questionable subjugation to interests outside our Central America, as well as positions that we do not recognize as our own, neither of these Heroic Lands, nor as Fraternal Characteristics of the People and Families of Costa Rica.
We compare and contrast the historical positions and attitudes of Central America’s Battles for the Sovereignty and Dignity of our Territories, with the confrontational attitude now, one unfortunately more in tune with foreign interests, than with those of our Peoples. We are familiar with and have denounced these confrontations as being breaches of the Protocols, Regulations and Diplomatic Canons that belong to us Central Americans, because we have designed them and worked on them together, approving them together too, as against the pseudo-European pro-imperialist verbiage of the governments that have represented Costa Rica recently in the Central American Integration System and in other International Organizations.
Sadly, we do not believe that the current Government nor other recent Governments of that Fraternal Country, represent the generous and honorable Character of that People whom we know so well, or of its most Illustrious Historical Figures, with whom we have shared Challenges, Honor and Glory.
We address this Message to our Brothers and Sisters among Costa Rica’s Families who are living, as all of us are living, difficult Times in this inhospitable and cruel World, so as to propose promoting Unity for the Common Good and for the Purposes that inspire us, combating Poverty, in Peace, Freedom, Sovereignty, Dignity and Brother and Sisterhood.
