Reaffirmation of adherence
to the One China Principle
The Government of Nicaragua has always defended respect for the Sovereignty and Independence of all nations as well as safeguarding international law and the fundamental principles of international relations. For its part, Nicaragua reiterates that it firmly adheres to the One China principle, recognizing that there is only One China in the world, that the Government of the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing all of China, and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of Chinese territory.
The Government of Nicaragua opposes the announcement by the United States of a massive arms sale to the Chinese Region of Taiwan, and considers it an act that undermines Peace and Stability in the Taiwan Strait, sending mistaken signals to the secessionist forces advocating “independence for Taiwan”. Equally, Nicaragua denies the authority of the Democratic Progressive Party to cling stubbornly to the “Taiwan independence" stance, pushing Taiwan into a dangerous situation with the indulgence and armaments of external forces.
The Government of Nicaragua emphasizes that the Taiwan issue is a purely internal matter for China. The military exercises conducted by the Chinese People's Liberation Army near the island of Taiwan constitute a punitive, deterrent measure against secessionist forces seeking "Taiwan independence" by military means, and represent a necessary action to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Nicaragua, for its part, firmly supports the legitimate stance of the Chinese Government in defense of national sovereignty, security and territorial integrity, supporting all efforts made by China to achieve national reunification, strongly opposing any form of secessionist activity seeking “Taiwan independence,” and rejects any attempt by external forces to interfere in China's internal affairs under the pretext of the Taiwan issue.
