ADDRESS BY NICARAGUA
IN THE MEETING ON VENEZUELA
OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL
January 5th, 2026
Mr. President,
1. Latin America and the Caribbean is a Zone of Peace, as declared by the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) on behalf of all the Peoples and Governments of our region.
2. This Zone of Peace must be respected absolutely by all the Governments of the World without exception, and especially by the members of this Security Council who are responsible for International Peace and Security.
3. This decision, the wishes and aspirations of our peoples are a noble contribution to World Peace, to international law and to the Charter of the United Nations.
Mr. President,
4. Nicaragua supports the statement made by the Interim President of Venezuela Delcy Rodríguez, who has called for the immediate release of the Constitutional, Legitimate President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, and of the First Combatant of their Nation, Cilia Flores.
5. All Member States of the United Nations have the duty to respect International Law, the spirit, the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, the right to Sovereignty, self-determination, territorial integrity of States, non-interference and peaceful coexistence.
6. Venezuela’s People are the dignified people of Bolívar, of Chávez, of Maduro and historically indomitable who defend their sovereignty and their right to Peace. Nicaragua will always stand by Venezuela.
7. Peace has been deeply wounded and the Human Family, the Community of Nations, the Peoples of the World, all of us urge that it be reinstated as an absolute reflection of the Dignity of Peoples.
