STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF NICARAGUA
IN THE HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL; INTERACTIVE
DIALOGUE ON THE PERIODIC UPDATE OF
NICARAGUA, BY THE HIGH COMMISSIONER
15th December, 2022
Excellency Federico Villegas, President of the United Nations Human Rights Council,
Excellency Mr. Volker Turk, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights;
Ladies and gentlemen representatives of the Member States, valued Representatives of International Organizations.
The legitimate Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of Nicaragua will not tire of repeating with dignity, loudly and irrefutably, our TOTAL REJECTION of this type of mechanism, which "updates its Human Rights reports", in a unilateral and biased manner; acting as an "instrument of pressure and interference", using arguments that are far from the reality of our motherland, with the sole purpose of keeping us underdeveloped and undermining our achievements, keeping us submerged under the directives of foreign powers.
We are a small nation in territorial proportion; but with firm convictions!! For this reason, we insist, these updates will not be able to stop us on our path of wellbeing and prosperity, to make our own history, with absolute respect for the sovereignty of each country.
We reaffirm that with these Update Reports; the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights continues to be infamous towards us, discrediting and denigrating our authorities and national institutions; despite this, we maintain our dignity, our sovereignty and our progress in all areas, for the benefit of all Nicaraguans, in pursuit of the most basic Human Rights, to which all peoples must aspire.
As long as reports like this continue to exist, we will continue to denounce the manipulative and biased positions against our People and Government, on the part of this Office of the High Commissioner; that does not pronounce itself, for example, on the arbitrary, aggressive and illegal sanctions that some countries have imposed on us, which directly attack the essential Human Rights of our people and constitute true crimes against humanity.
We are aware that the developments achieved in our country do not please those who have lived at the expense of other peoples: looting, attacking and intervening, in order to hoard all the wealth for themselves; however, we are convinced, -as we have already stated-, that without the democratization of wealth, real Human Rights can never exist.
We reiterate that we are respectful in the international community, that we have not been, nor will we be a threat to any other country in the world and therefore, we demand that this organization act towards Nicaragua with respect, justice and equality.
