We are writing to you to ask for your support sharing the good word about our beloved Cuba solidarity sister, Catherine Murphy's latest documentary,Silvio Rodriguez: Mi primera tarea (My first calling).
This 25-minute documentary film thoughtfully weaves archival footage of the Cuban Literacy Campaign of 1961 and a rare, exclusive interview with Cuba's iconic singer/songwriter and international recording artist, Silvio Rodriguez, as he recounts his first calling.
At the age of 14, Silvio volunteered to join the brigade of over one hundred thousand teenagers that went into the Cuban mountains and countryside to teach rural campesinos how to read and write. In this exclusive interview, Silvio shares his memories on how he was impacted by the experience and how it shaped his life.

The U.S. Premiere of Silvio Rodriguez: Mi primera tarea will be on Sunday, September 20 starting at 5pm Pacific | 7pm Central |8pm Eastern.
This event, "Silvio & el Poder de La Palabra" is a collaboration of The Literacy Project & HotHouse, and presented exclusively by HotHouseGlobal , who brought you the Concert for Cuba this past July!
The event combines the debut screening of Silvio Rodriguez: Mi primera tarea, with a tribute concert to Silvio Rodriguez. The concert features globally renowned artists: Duo Made y Feña; Rochy Ameneiro-Rodrigo Garcia Ameneiro + Tania Haase ( Duo Espiral); Katia and Nina Cardenal; Francisco Herrera; Quetzal; Rodstarz de Rebel Diaz and Franco Valdes; Kelvis Ochoa; Roly Berrio; Susana Baca & Lila Downs!

Les escribimos para pedir su apoyo compartiendo y sumando fuerzas en la difusión, participación activa y asistencia al estreno del último documental de nuestra querida hermana, solidaria con Cuba, Catherine Murphy, Silvio Rodríguez. Mi primera tarea.
Este documental, de 25 minutos, entreteje una entrevista exclusiva e íntima con el mítico trovador cubano junto a históricas imágenes de la Campaña de Alfabetización cubana de 1961, epopeya que se encuentra próxima a cumplir 60 años. Silvio Rodríguez, abre su corazón a uno de los momentos clave de su vida, nos cuenta cómo, con tan solo 14 años, se enlista como voluntario para unirse a una brigada, de más de 100.000 adolescentes, que se adentra en las montañas para enseñar al pueblo campesino a leer y escribir. En esta entrevista, Silvio comparte sus recuerdos sobre cómo fue impactado por la experiencia y cómo esto transformaría para siempre su forma de ver la vida.
