MESSAGE BY THE GOVERNMENT OF RECONCILIATION AND NATIONAL UNITY OF NICARAGUA

17.9.2020 / 10.05 h

INTERVENTION BY DENIS MONCADA COLINDRES, MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF THE REPUBLIC OF NICARAGUA

September 21, 2020

  • Excellency
    António Guterres

Secretary General of the United Nations

  •  Excellency
    Volkan Bozkir
President of the 75th Period of Sessions of the General Assembly

  • Ladies and Gentlemen Representatives of the Member States

    1. Receive the greetings of the people of Nicaragua, of President-Comandante Daniel Ortega Saavedra and Comrade Vice-President Rosario Murillo.

    2. We express our Solidarity and Condolences to all the Families that suffer the onslaught of the Pandemic that affects Humanity, which we must overcome with Solidarity and Cooperation among the Peoples of the World, which today commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations.

    3. This Pandemic has demonstrated the need to create a new International Economic Model based on inclusion, equity and justice, prioritizing health, as a universal right of humanity; demanding that the resources that are destined for war, are available for life and for peace.

    4. The United Nations must focus on the welfare of the Human Being. Nicaragua rejects the politicization of the United Nations System, promoted mainly by the United States, which intends to turn its Organs into instruments at the service of imperialist interests, to destabilize countries that do not submit to its designs.

    5. We reject the politicization of the Human Rights Council, its false reports and unilateral resolutions, lacking in objectivity, against the Peoples of Nicaragua and Venezuela.

    6. Nicaragua denounces the aggressions suffered by the worthy people of Cuba through the brutal economic, political and commercial blockade, reaffirming our permanent solidarity with President Miguel Díaz-Canel, Army General Raul Castro and Fidel's Legacy.

    7. We reiterate our firm support for the Sister Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, and the right of its legitimate President, Comrade Nicolás Maduro, to comply at all times with its Constitution.

    8. The illegal Unilateral Coercive Measures against the Peoples and in particular against Nicaragua, must cease immediately. Meanwhile, in this unjust and perverted Global Model, our Nicaragua continues to implement public policies focused on the Well-being of Nicaraguan Families, guaranteeing their development, stability and peace.

These Coercive and Aggressive Policies of the Empires constitute the true obstacle to the eradication of Poverty and to advance towards Sustainable Development.

Mr. President, Heads and Representatives of Delegations:

    9. The 2030 Agenda is based on the Principle of Universality. Therefore, it is everyone's commitment to leave no one behind, including the People and Government of Taiwan, who have the Right to participate in the implementation of this Agenda. Taiwan is willing, and has the ability, to participate and contribute to the United Nations Programs for the Welfare of Humanity.

    10. We live in complex historical times and only in Unity will we achieve the eradication of hunger and poverty, and face the existential threat of climate change, which remains latent as a consequence of Savage Capitalism.

We must also continue our global efforts for regular, safe and orderly migration.

    11. We are certain that the peoples are advancing, building with Vigor and Hope, a New World Model with Justice, Equity and Multilateralism, in order to guarantee International Peace and Security and the Common Good, in compliance with the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations. Thank you very much!
