of the passing to immortality (1912) of General Benjamin Zeledon

Compañeras and Compañeros:
Sisters and Brothers of La Concordia, birthplace of the Hero of our Nation General Benjamin Zeledon Rodriguez.
1.- Receive a fraternal Sandinista embrace from Compañero President of Nicaragua, Commander Daniel Ortega Saavedra, and the Vice President Compañera Rosario Murillo.
2.- We pay well-deserved tribute to General Benjamín Zeledón Rodríguez on the 141st anniversary of his birth here at La Concordia, and the 108th anniversary of his heroic passing to immortality. Here at La Concordia, General Zeledón was born, a memorable example of nationalism, anti-imperialism and love for our country Nicaragua.
On a day like today, in this blessed and beloved land of La Concordia, the heroic and courageous patriot was born, defender of our Nicaragua, for whom we all feel pride, we appreciate and respect him for the dimension of his human dignity and patriotism.
4.- His anti-interventionist deed, his courage and decision, has transcended time, being a Nicaraguan symbol of nationalist struggle, of dignity and anti-imperialism in our country.
5.- The history of Nicaragua, is one forged with links of struggle for liberty against the invaders. We see it in General José Dolores Estrada, Andrés Castro and the Indian brothers, the archers from Yucul, Matagalpa, in the Battle of San Jacinto. (1856).
6.- Another link is the memorable example of General Benjamin Zeledon and who writing on September 14th 1901 about the Battle of San Jacinto says the following:
"Today, forty-five years ago, the black vulture of the North, Byron Cole, fell in one blow on the plains of San Jacinto, and with his fall our horizon is cleared, freedom is reborn, the mountain of terror collapses, the enslaved children of this land raise their heads, break the chains with which they were tied to the thick pole of sacrifice! and the second sun of our independence is born!"
7.- And General Zeledón is an example for General Sandino, another link in our History. And Sandino rescues and takes up again, 15 years later, the thinking and action of General Zeledón , defending national sovereignty and dignity of the Nicaraguan Nation in the face of persistent US military intervention.
8.- And in relation to General Zeledón, Sandino says the following:
"Benjamín Zeledón: A great patriot, a brave soldier, his heroic sacrifice for the sake of our national sovereignty will not be forgotten and his memory lives on in the heart of every good son and daughter of Nicaragua".
9 .- The heroism of General Zeledon and his transit to immortality, was the seed that germinated in, General Augusto C. Sandino, also a National Hero. And Sandino is the link between the Army in Defence of National Sovereignty, and Comandante Carlos Fonseca Amador founder of the FSLN and the Government of National Reconciliation and Unity led now by Comandante Daniel Ortega Saavedra and Comrade Rosario Murillo.
10.- They are the links that unite and consolidate the Nicaraguan Nation, free, Sovereign, Independent and Autonomous. A dignified Nation of free Nicaraguans and not one of the colonialist interventionists.
We must all remember and commemorate our Heroes and Martyrs so that our youth and future generations are aware of the patriotic deed and heroism of a man and a handful of combatants who accompanied him, who gave an example of love and sacrifice for their country.
General Zeledón and the patriots who fought alongside him, faced the US invaders, supported by the Nicaraguan Cains who spawn every now and then, wanting once again to surrender our national sovereignty to imperialism. They are the same traitors of yesteryear, prostrate and loyal to foreign interests.
The majority of Nicaraguans continue along the path of good government of the FSLN, working for the Common Good, for Peace, Progress and Harmony for everyone, without exclusion.
14 .- We Nicaraguans must continue to defend our country, its sovereignty, with the ideals of General Zeledon, who wrote the following:
"I and the patriots who follow me from the heart, do not understand pacts and even less surrender, since we defend the dignity and sovereignty of Nicaragua".
"We want there to be true well-being for all the humble, for the masses, for all the anonymous people, whom the oligarchs disdainfully treat as cannon fodder".
15.- Today we offer Honor and Glory to General Benjamin Zeledon! Beloved son of La Concordia, of his family, a Hero to all Nicaraguans, a man with a noble soul who fought until the last breath of his life against the armed intervention of the United States of America, defending the sovereignty and dignity of Nicaragua.
16.- Sisters, brothers, comrades, we must honor and applaud the heroic deed of General Benjamin Zeledon, I invite you to give a minute of applause in memory of General Zeledon...

Long live La Concordia!
Long live the FSLN!
Long live Compañeros Daniel and Rosario!
Long live free Nicaragua!
