Popular Resistance, December 2nd 2020
Today, the three Embassy Protection Collective members, Adrienne Pine, David Paul and Margaret Flowers, who were arrested on May 16, 2019, are free from probation and a 30-day suspended sentence. The fourth member, Kevin Zeese, died unexpectedly in September.
The EPC Defense Committee and EPC members thank you for your support, which was essential for our ability to have a high-quality legal defense team that kept the protectors out of jail and to organize speaking tours to spread the word about the United States’ illegal assault on Venezuela.
Now that they are free to travel, Adrienne, David and Margaret will go to Venezuela to serve as official international election observers for the National Assembly election to be held on December 6. They will be available to report on that election and the United States’ attempts to undermine it upon their return. Massachusetts Peace Action will hold an online report-back event on December 17, 2020. Visit their Facebook page for details.
US imperialism is bipartisan. The attacks on Venezuela have been going on for over twenty years. As citizens of this imperialist country, we have a responsibility to continue organizing and insisting on these demands.
The incoming Biden-Harris administration must respect the sovereignty of Venezuela and adhere to international law by:
-
Ending the economic blockade of Venezuela.
-
Removing the military from the waters around Venezuela.
-
Respecting Venezuela’s political process and sovereignty.
-
Re-establishing diplomatic relations with the constitutional government of Venezuela.
