Remarks by Compañera Rosario, Vice President of Nicaragua,
after the Special Event in Commemoration of International Women's Day
March 8th 2021
Good evening. What can we say after listening to so much testimony of the struggle of a People, with its Women, with everyone, to the fore, everyone seeking always the Common Good, based on traditional values, good values.
When we talk about values, we refer above all to those feelings, to those ideas, to those expressions that have through all times made us better, those family values, the values of couples, of community, those values that we take up as part of our cultural heritage, in a culture that of course also has its less good or negative aspects, such as machismo and a tradition of oppressing Women, which is what we are determined to change and transform, in order to evolve. That we banish bad habits, bad customs, disrespect, and especially hate crimes against women.
And I say that we are inspired by this journey through our history, that history of which we Nicaraguan Women have been part of, working always with enthusiasm, with intelligence, with sensitivity, and always too, in this cultural model of ours, responsible for our families, because that is the reality, that is the truth.
And in our families we try every day to pass on the best of our values, the best of our history, the best of our culture, and to advance against the anti-values, against what does not make us better, against everything that represents aggravation, offense, mistreatment, suffering. And when one takes on a mission in life, revolutionary, evolutionary, one takes it on with courage, courage to transform what is not good, and that is the task in hand, that is the struggle, that is the commitment.
And really, Comandante Daniel has given an account of the battles of recent decades, and in that account we see the strength of our People, a strength manifest in all circumstances, one that has allowed us to move forward as a People with dignity.
Comandante Daniel said, we are not a People of quislings, we are not a People of oligarchs, we are not a push-over People. We are a great People, a People strong in soul and in spirit, a People with know-how, striving and overcoming every day.
That is why we say: We press forward, always overcoming with Love, with hope, overcoming the poverty that degrades us, that humiliates us. That is our People's main adversary: Poverty. And those who created that Poverty must take responsibility for how through the ages they have marginalized and disrespected our People, in the countryside, in the cities.
Comandante Daniel said just now that they classify us as "rabble" and "hired help", that is the way they use to despise us, to discriminate against and exclude us, and also to steal from us the Rights we have as Human Beings.
I am convinced that, given our strength, we will never give in, and I am sure that is why we move forward, and why we are going to win, and why we go from victory to victory. Because they are victories of harmony. They are victories of a good life, of a good way to live. They are victories of the Rights which throughout all this history of struggle, of tireless struggle by Nicaragua's People, we have rescued and protected from the predators, the oligarchs and the traitors.
I am sure that God's Blessing is upon this People, upon a great People, a good People, a generous People, a kind People, a People that wants Peace. God's blessing is with us every day, enlightening us, guiding us and, above all, blessing all our efforts to do well. To do well by promoting Rights, and to prosper by means of a culture of Rights and a culture of meeting, of reconciliation, of work, of security and Peace !
An embrace to all Women wherever we are working or resting, to all Women, with faith, with strength, with hope, with Love, because I am convinced, I repeat, that we are moving forward, and we will overcome and we will win !
