TO THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY
ON THE CELEBRATION OF RAMADAN

“In the name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate”

Dear Muslim Brothers and Sisters around the World:

On behalf of the People and Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of the Republic of Nicaragua, we are pleased to express our greetings at the beginning of the celebration of Ramadan, a month dedicated to fasting, prayer and almsgiving, honoring Almighty God and the revelation of the Glorious Quran.

During this holy month of Ramadan, we encourage and support you in your rigorous fasting which is a practice prescribed for all children of Abraham (Peace be upon Him!) in our respective holy books.

Pope Francis has often spoken of the union between fasting, prayer and Peace. In the first year of his Pontificate, on September 7, 2013, he called all believers in the world to fast and pray for Peace in Syria, in the Middle East and throughout the earthly world. This day was chosen to coincide with the celebration of the birth of Mary, whom both Christians and Muslims honor as the mother of Jesus. We Catholic Christians call her “Queen of Peace.”

Today, Muslims and Christians around the world suffer discrimination, persecution, war and violence. As members of the two major world religions, we are called, as Brothers and Sisters in Abraham (peace be upon him!) To join our hands

and hearts to build a World of Peace and Justice. This vividly demonstrates what Pope Francis wrote in his encyclical on Creation: “We need to strengthen the awareness that we are one human family. There are no borders or political or social barriers that allow us to isolate ourselves, and for this reason there is no room for the globalization of indifference”.

Today, millions of people in the world live in extreme poverty. Most of these people live in Africa and Asia and Latin America, in countries inhabited by Muslims and Christians. Poverty is not a sectarian problem; It is a human problem in which we share responsibility for everyone, regardless of religion, race, ethnicity and country of origin.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

From our Always Blessed and Always Free Nicaragua, we wish to say Happy Ramadan to the Muslims at home and around the World who begin the holy month, our best wishes and prayers so that our Lives glorify the Most High and carry joy to those around you.

Blessed Ramadan, Happy Ramadan

Peace, Mercy and God's Blessings be with you.
