Dear Friends of Cuba,
As you probably know, in the past couple of months, there has been a growing movement in the U.S. to advocate for changes regarding the blockade, OFAC restrictions to travel and positive engagement for collaborations for covid-relief, and more.
This is to invite you to our East Bay version of a Puentes de Amor contribution. Instead of a car caravan, we will be gathering as a community of supporters to end the Blockade of Cuba .
The idea is to demonstrate our shared sense of support for Cuba as friends and family by celebrating our unity. We will have informational material to distribute to others who want to know more about our nation’s current policies.
Across the country, support groups, inspired by the Puentes de Amor organizers in Miami, have dedicated the last Sunday of each month to participate in car caravans or other acts of solidarity that will declare our support and counter the negative messaging that has been constantly used since the Revolution by the U.S. government to attempt a “transition to democracy”.
This event is in the spirit of collaboration with the San Francisco-based car Caravana por Cuba which is also scheduled for the last Sunday; they will be gathering at 1875, Marin St. in SF at 11:30.
We will share photos and messages of our Puentes de Amor celebration with our Cuban friends and the other organizations in the many U.S. cities that are presenting their support activities simultaneously.
We look forward to seeing you at this celebration of support for better relations with our Cuban neighbors. Bring your signs and Cuban flags. Nearest BART station is the Lake Merritt stop at 800 Oak St.
