Sacha Llorenti: Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua represent an example for humanity in the defense of democracy

The executive secretary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), Sacha Llorenti, stated that Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua are tangible examples of what Bolivarian principles mean.

In that regard, he pointed out the solidarity shown by Cuba and Venezuela when faced with the needs of sister countries, despite the 243 unilateral coercive measures imposed against them during the tightening of the imperialist blockade.

In the case of Venezuela, he highlighted the dispatch of oxygen to the Federative Republic of Brazil, while as regards Cuba, he emphasized the sending of health professionals to different parts of the world to deal with COVID-19 on the front line.

"These countries are tangible examples of the meaning of the Bolivarian principles that run through the veins of the Alliance (...) ALBA demonstrates in practice that another type of integration is possible," he added.

As regards relations with other countries outside the region, the Executive Secretary explained that ALBA-TCP maintains constant relations with different nations of the world, among which the following stand out: the Russian Federation, the People's Republic of China, the Republic of Turkey, the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of India; among others.

"It is essential that we join efforts, not only out of principle, but also because threats are now global (...) The pandemic taught us that we are all together and that one country alone cannot, nor should it, save itself", he said.

In this regard, he regretted that the United Nations Organization (UN), as the entity responsible for bringing the world together, is going through a "crisis resulting from the imperialist logic of seeking to resolve all issues through unilateralism in a very diverse world".

With respect to the recently held Mexican elections, he indicated that "the fact that Mexico looks to the South is very important for everyone (...) I would like to highlight the actions of President Andrés López Obrador, for example in the rescue of Evo Morales, after the coup d'état. That decision alone has contributed to the fact that Bolivia, months later, has recovered its democracy".

Likewise, he pointed out that the alliance between Argentina and Mexico represents the construction of an internal network through which Latin America and the Caribbean will be able to solve their problems on their own; without interference from instances such as the OAS.

He pointed out that capitalism and neo-liberalism try to destroy any instance of cooperation and solidarity except those forums where they can impose their interests, in this case the OAS.

"The OAS is the spearhead of the application of the Monroe Doctrine, which seeks to turn Latin America and the Caribbean into the backyard, the subsidiary, the subordinate of the United States, to take over its natural resources; to turn Latin America into a market for its products, to have cheap labor," he said.

He explained that this union between Argentina and Mexico is a sign that Latin America is far from becoming the backyard of any country. In that regard too, he emphasized that Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua represent an example for humanity in the defense of democracy, sovereignty and independence.

He condemned how "the United States, its allies and the OAS have used the pandemic as a weapon of mass destruction against these peoples. They believed that the pandemic was going to cause a disaster in the health system of these countries, but it is these countries that have demonstrated the best management of the pandemic".

He affirmed that in these difficult moments for humanity, ALBA is writing the "most marvelous pages of solidarity in the history of solidarity thanks to the leadership of its leaders and the will of its peoples".
