MANAGUA (Sputnik) - The Governments of Nicaragua and the Republic of Crimea signed a commercial and economic cooperation agreement, within the framework of the visit to the Central American country of a high-level delegation from that peninsular territory that is part of the Russian Federation.
“This agreement aims to expand and strengthen the cooperation of the parties in the commercial and economic sphere [in correspondence with] the laws of Russia and Nicaragua, as well as the international treaties to which we are party as countries, "said the Nicaraguan presidential advisor for Investment, Trade and International Cooperation, Laureano Ortega Murillo, at the end of the ceremony.”
The agreement was signed by the Vice President of the Council of Ministers of Crimea, Georgui Muradov, and the Delegate Minister for Production and Trade of the Nicaraguan Government, Francisco López.
Ortega Murillo said that among the common spheres of cooperation will be the support to commercial entities for the creation of joint ventures, the exchange of information, as well as sharing the needs regarding raw materials, components and final products.
The Nicaraguan Minister of Finance, Iván Acosta, highlighted the possibilities that are opened with the commercial agreement for exporters from his country, due to the great tourist development of Crimea.
Nicaragua can sell products such as rum, meat, coffee and fruits to the Crimean market and at the same time, buy wheat and metallurgical products, among others, the headline anticipated.
"[This] agreement will frame all the possible cooperation that will developed following the subsequent preparation of the action plans for execution. In order for this agreement to operate, we will form an operational body, (…) a working group that it is going to meet annually, to update our intentions here within,” said the head of the Crimean Delegation, Guergui Muradov.
The Minister of Finance and Vice President of the Council of Ministers of Crimea, Irina Kiviko, said that they have long been interested in selling wheat and other food items to Nicaragua.
"Regarding Nicaragua, we are interested in bringing coffee, we really like this drink in Crimea, also fresh fruits and some other products, which we hope you can offer us," Kiviko said.
Muradov thanked the Government of Nicaragua, in particular President Daniel Ortega, for having made the decision to open the honorary consulate of the Central American country in the Republic of Crimea.
