Constant attacks on the government and peoples of Nicaragua by former supporters of the Sandinistas have taken a sinister turn: they are now openly endorsing US, European Union, British, French, Spanish, German, Austrian, Canadian and Organisation of American States aggressions against Nicaragua.
Whether Irish or international, these ‘liberals’ and alleged leftists and self-described “former supporters” of the Sandinistas wrap themselves in the cloaks of human rights and democracy as they march in step with some of the most reactionary governments and blocs in the world.
These are the same countries and blocs that have attacked every progressive force that ever emerged anywhere in the world – most notably today the governments in Cuba, Venezuela, Bolivia and, of course, Nicaragua.
Nicaragua Solidarity Ireland condemns the actions of these so-called ‘solidarity’ activists who wilfully and deliberately offer themselves up as mercenaries in the schemes of the remaining imperialist forces in Europe and the Americas.
Their latest open letters betray their contradictions. Since when did expressions of solidarity with any country involve the active and deliberate collaboration with aggressive outside forces? These activists are in the service of the most dangerous forces in the world today. They have no shame and they do know better.
