Remarks by Compañera Rosario, Vice President of Nicaragua,
after the Sandinista National Congress "Heroic Pancasán"

How much Joy and how much Strength ! What a Blessing ! How much Honor ! How much Glory ! How many Victories we are building with that Energy and that Victorious Hope our People have!
I am always moved, because I reflect on where we come from. We know, as Dario says, where we come from, we treasure that heroic origin. We are a People of Heroes, we are a People that knows how to fight and knows how to overcome. We are a People that invokes God every day, asking for Blessings, for Work, for Security, for Stability, for Peace!
A People that makes its way with Love, because it is not possible to have a History as Heroic as ours, if it were not, as it is, a History of Love. We are in love with Nicaragua. We Nicaraguans are Families full of Love, unlike so many other places in the World where people no longer love, where they simply live out of selfishness, and above all out of the selfishness practiced by their Governments. Because the Peoples are always Good and always Wise, but their Governments implement Policies of selfishness, they practice indifference, they ignore Rights, Solidarity, Fraternity.
And we feel privileged to be part of this Christian People, a People of Fraternity, of Freedom, of Dignity, of Solidarity. This is how we have been educated, this is how we have grown up, living harmoniously together in our Neighborhoods, Communities, lacking Rights, as our Comandante Daniel was saying, in the Times of Dictatorship and of Governments servile to the Yankees, people who sold out their country, nation-less, one might say. People without a Nation!
What pain, what grief, what shame it must be for those who do not know what it is to Love their own Nation!
How much that Love for our Nation strengthens us! One remarks on it when one reads so much of our Blessed History, one has to say: How much Love for our Nation we have lived though, we have known from so many heroic Nicaraguans, how it strengthens us. How we are strengthened by that Inspiration, that Invocation to God to continue triumphing over Evil, to continue advancing in Goodness, with the Sword of Goodness, the Sword of Love, the Sword of Hope.
How it strengthens us to know that we are Worthy Daughters and Sons of our National Heroes, and how it strengthens us too, I would say, that Story, that Living History of knowing how to live in Hope even through the most difficult Times, and that is why I always quote Fernando Gordillo, when he tells us :
"I sing of the courage of those who dream
even with their feet in the mud.
Their eyes do not fear the night
nor do shadows blind them.
I sing of the silence of the one reflecting on their cry
before launching it even in the middle of the desert.
His hands hold the hope
that builds his words in the air.
I sing the flag that flutters in the distance
and the steadfast flagpole that holds it
and the days it may take us to hoist it
and the breeze of the People for whom it flies.
I sing the name of those who make history,
though history will never sing their names.
It's on their bare shoulders that our hope depends!"
Hope in every single line, that is what defines the Nicaraguan People: A People full of Faith, Hope, Solidarity, Love, and a People of Peace !
So today we feel grateful to God, to our People, because they permit us to run for office so as to continue serving. We learned to serve, to live in order to serve, and we learned above all, to live the Joy of Service, of Love for our Neighbor. And that is what today the Sandinista Front in this "Heroic Pancasán" Congress has ratified.
That is to say, we have to continue serving our People, because it is not only Daniel and myself, but the all people who are Sandinistas, Revolutionary People, entire Families, Sandinista militants, who are willing to serve, even to give our lives for this People of ours that fills us with such Pride. We are committed, loving, grateful, inspired and strengthened by the Blessed, Honorable and Victorious Energy of the Nicaraguan People.
That People that gives us everything, that gives us Life, that gives us Hope, and that allows us, and will allow us, God Willing, in November, to continue fighting the Battle against Poverty, because we have the Right to live with Dignity, to live as Human Beings, to live with Joy, with Happiness. Because we will have all our needs met, and because we know that here the People continue to be President.
