MESSAGE IN COMMEMORATION OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLES
As we commemorate the International Day of Indigenous Peoples, we proudly celebrate our ancestral indigenous heritage that nourishes and enriches the Nicaraguan Identity.
We recognize the historical contributions made by our Indigenous Peoples, their heroes, poets, legends and artists, whom enhance the National Culture, highlighting the Constitutional Principle that Our Nicaragua is a Multiethnic and Pluricultural Nation.
We celebrate the legacies of our Caciques Diriangén and Nicarao and many others, who never surrendered to colonial oppression and whose strength and wisdom inspired National Independence, the antiimperialist struggle, the Sandinista Popular Revolution and today, the construction of a Genuine Nicaraguan Democracy, in which all Peoples and all social sectors of our society are represented.
"I am Nicaraguan and I feel proud that in my veins flows Amerindian blood, more than any other, which by atavism contains the mystery of being a loyal and sincere patriot". Augusto C. Sandino, General of Free Men, National Hero.
By recognizing the victories achieved in the economic, political, social, environmental and cultural fields, we also observe that we have a long way to go and therefore, we reiterate the irrevocable commitment of the Revolution and the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity, to continue promoting the Wellbeing and Good Living of all the Indigenous Peoples of Nicaragua.
