OF THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE OAS
HONORABLE DELEGATES OF STATES AND GOVERNMENTS OF OUR AMERICA
On 20th October, 2021, the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States, OAS, was convened to discuss, among other points, aspects that correspond solely and exclusively to the decisions of Nicaraguan Citizens. Our Country categorically expresses that we do not accept any debating or judging of the acts of sovereignty that the Nicaraguan people, in exercise of our fundamental rights to live, take in accordance with our laws and social norms.
For our citizens, it is inadmissible that one or more States, in open violation of the Principles of self-determination and of Non-Intervention in the internal affairs of other Nations, pretend to judge another free People; therefore, we reject this illegitimate meeting from its conception, and we do not participate in it, since our respect for the rights of other peoples of Our America begins by asserting the fundamental rights of Nicaragua and all Nicaraguans.
We comply with our Supreme Norm, the Political Constitution of Nicaragua, which states:
“Independence, sovereignty and national self-determination are inalienable rights of the People and foundations of the Nicaraguan nation. Any foreign interference in the internal affairs of Nicaragua or any attempt to undermine those rights, threatens the life of the People. It is the duty of all Nicaraguans to preserve and defend these rights.”
