As Representative of the Chinese government, it gives me great pleasure to extend to you the warmest and most cordial welcome.
Today is an important day in the history of China-Nicaragua relations. After thirty-one years, the red flag with five stars is once again flying on the top of the Chinese Embassy in Nicaragua. I am honored and excited to be able to witness this historic moment together with you.
As is well known throughout the world, the One China Principle is a universal consensus of the international community. Last December 10th, diplomatic relations were restored between the People's Republic of China and the Republic of Nicaragua, a decision that not only in tune with the general trend of history and the currents of the times, but also fully in accordance with the fundamental, long-term interests of the two countries and peoples.
I would like to reiterate that reunification between mainland China and Taiwan Island is the only possible outcome. We highly appreciate the Nicaraguan government's fair and firm adherence to the one-China principle and its firm compliance with its solemn commitment not to have any official relations or contacts with Taiwan.

At the present juncture, the world is experiencing a persistent pandemic and accelerated changes not seen in the last century. At this crossroads, China has always been on the right side of history and the world's many developing countries, to keep the wheels of humanity's development heading toward a brighter future.
It is imperative for the international community to enhance cooperation against the pandemic. China, a pioneer in strengthening international cooperation, is dedicated to building a global health community for all. To date, it has provided nearly two billion doses of vaccines to more than 120 countries and international organizations.
After the reestablishment of diplomatic relations, China immediately donated one million doses of vaccines and another one million sets of syringes, reflecting our strong support and solidarity for Nicaragua's fight against the pandemic.
Development is the master key to solving all problems. For the time being, global economic recovery remains fragile and tortuous. To this end, President Xi Jinping officially presented to the world the Global Development Initiative, aimed at improving the well-being of all peoples and achieving the comprehensive development of humankind, which has enjoyed a broad echo and endorsement from the international community. Nicaragua is welcome to take an active part in this Initiative and join the great family of the joint construction of the Belt and Road as soon as possible.
It is imperative to adhere to multilateralism and oppose foreign interference in the internal affairs of other countries in the name of so-called democracy and human rights.
China has been a staunch supporter of the common values of humanity. Both the Chinese government and the Nicaraguan government share the same or similar positions on important international and multilateral issues. Both sides firmly safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity, reject foreign interference, and insist on their own development path in accordance with national conditions. China is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with Nicaragua, hold high the torch of genuine multilateralism and promote the construction of a new kind of international relations.

In 2021, under the strong leadership of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, with its nucleus around Comrade Xi Jinping, China achieved the first centennial goal of building a modestly well-off society in a comprehensive way and holding a majestic celebration of the centennial of the Party's founding. The coming year 2022 will be a key year for the Chinese people to start marching toward the second centennial goal of building a powerful modern socialist country in all aspects. In addition, the 20th National Party Congress will be convened on a grand scale. This new Diplomatic Mission will do its best and fulfill its duties to become a home for Chinese citizens in Nicaragua, a window that strengthens understanding, a bridge that deepens cooperation and a link that connects the two peoples.
On the eve of the New Year, we desire that China-Nicaragua relations will be as dignified and prosperous as the Sacuanjoche of Nicaragua, and as resilient and indestructible as the Great Wall of China.
May we together overcome the pandemic, may we move forward together for a shared future, may our two countries enjoy prosperity and our two peoples live in peace and harmony!
