Unida Nicaragua Triunfa
STATEMENT BY COMRADE DR. MARTHA REYES,
MINISTER OF HEALTH OF THE REPUBLIC OF NICARAGUA
DELIVERED AT THE 75TH WORLD HEALTH ASSEMBLY
23-28 MAY, 2022
Mr. President, esteemed Representatives and Delegates to this 75th Meeting of the World Health Assembly, receive the Greetings of the People and Government of the Republic of Nicaragua, where we continue to build, day by day, a society of Peace, Equity and Social Justice. A Blessed Motherland, always Dignified, Free, full of Patriotic Love, Love among Sisters and Brothers, Love and Peace, Peace and Health, for everyone.
Peace in “Our Shared Home” is threatened by conflicts, the climate crisis, health emergencies and inequalities, which worsen between countries and within them.
Getting back on track in advancing towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG-2030 Agenda) and Universal Health, requires Will, Steadfast Commitment and Determined Action from each and every one of the countries of the world.
In this context, Health and Peace are fundamental human rights, key public goods for the development of Peoples.
Peace translated into Prosperity and Wellbeing for Families, Communities and Nations; is not exclusive of the differences inherent to the diversity of interests and power struggles, which, in societies of Peace, are resolved through Agreements.
Thus, both Health and Peace must be built with the contributions of individuals, families, communities and Governments, in communion and harmony with the international community.
For this reason, the construction of the highest possible State of Health in Nicaragua is founded upon the Protagonism of People, Families and Communities and facilitated by our Government of Reconciliation and National Unity.
Peace in the Neighborhoods, in the Regions, in the Municipalities and Departments of our country, is erected from the Protagonism of its inhabitants, backed by the Political Will of our Good Government, based on principles and values and from a preventive approach, through of our Family and Community Health Model.
The Political Constitution of our country establishes that the struggle for Peace and a Just International Order, are inalienable commitments. For this reason, we oppose all forms of colonialism, imperialist domination and exploitation and we stand in solidarity with all Peoples who struggle against oppression and discrimination.
Nicaragua bases its international relations on Friendship, Complementarity, Solidarity among Peoples and Reciprocity among States.
Therefore, any kind of political, military, economic, cultural or religious aggression or interventionism in the internal affairs of other States are prohibited and proscribed.
Our country recognizes the Principle of Peaceful Settlement of international disputes through the means offered by International Law.
At this time of international conflict, in which the losers are all the Peoples of the World, Nicaragua reiterates its call for a peaceful and consensual solution of differences, since this directly influences World Health.
In this 75th World Health Assembly we urge everyone to Build Peace for our health and that with health, we strengthen Peace.
Thank you very much.
