Tortilla con Sal, August 28th 2018

This historic photograph from 2006 is a reminder that the MRS even back then was striking deals with Nicaragua's main right wing parties in the run up to the 2006 Presidential elections. The MRS accepted funding from the International Republican Institute in the run up to the 2006 elections.
In October 2005, Sub-Secretary of State Robert Zoellick visited Nicaragua and met with then possible presidential candidates Eduardo Montealegre (for the Nicaraguan Liberal Alliance), Herty Lewites (of the Sandinista Renewal Movement who tragically died of a heart attack in July 2006) and some members of the Constitutional Liberal Party (PLC) of disgraced ex-president Arnoldo Aleman. Among the group meeting Zoellick along with Lewites were his MRS colleagues Luis Carrion and Victor Hugo Tinoco.
The photograph is of a meeting in 2006 between the PLC candidate José Rizo Castellón, Eduardo Montealegre and Herty Lewites to reach agreement about their election strategy.
