On May 20, 1928, from his headquarters in El Chipotón, General Augusto C. Sandino wrote in his own handwriting a message that would be published in the Nº 16 of the magazine Amauta, in July of that same year:

"Through Amauta magazine, I send my fervent greetings to the new generation of manual and intellectual workers of Latin America, who know how to share, as their own, the hours of anguish that have touched our Nicaragua. To her I reaffirm my unwavering faith in the triumph of our weapons which, in defending the freedom of a people of Our America, defend the freedom of the Continent.

José Carlos Mariátegui's pen had already called for continental solidarity against the attack on the homeland of the General of Free Men and Women:

"The United States has set its sights on Nicaragua [with] the purpose of turning [the river] San Juan into an inter-oceanic canal (...) Its agents have devoted themselves to the task of organizing the revolts from which, under the protection of Yankee guns, a government obedient to Northern imperialism should emerge.

The only path of active resistance to Yankee rule was the heroic path of Sandino (...) The flag of struggle was left exclusively in the hands of Sandino and his brave and intrepid legion. (...) Sandino maintained his rebellious attitude undaunted".

The thought of these illustrious Latin Americans is now even more alive and relevant than ever. Like almost a century ago, the house of Amauta houses Peruvian solidarity with the struggles for self-determination and the right to non-intervention, convinced that, in defending the freedom of a people of Our America, they defend the freedom of the Continent
