COMMUNIQUE
The Delegation of the Government of Nicaragua at the Negotiation Table for the pursuit of Understanding and Peace in Nicaragua has responsibly made itself present, today, Monday, March 11 at 10:00 a.m. at the INCAE facilities.
The Delegation of the Government of Nicaragua ratifies the commitment of the State of Nicaraguan to continue developing the Work Sessions to advance and agree on the Agenda, approved between both Delegations, on March 5, 2019.
That Roadmap establishes the following Commitments:
Meetings will be held daily, from Monday to Friday, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM with the possibility of extending.
The Negotiation Process will end tentatively on March 28, 2019, or at a date agreed upon through consensus by the Lead Delegates.
The Agenda will contain the Topics and Main Points that the Delegations propose and adopt by consensus in the Negotiation.
Consensus by both parties is the way for adopting the Agreements and the Methodology of the Meetings.
The Participants in the Negotiation may only make statements and disclosures on the subjects already approved.
On March 9, the Government of Nicaragua publicly presented Agenda Items for the Negotiations, which read as follows:
Committed to the Strengthening of Democracy and the Respect for the Constitutional Order of Nicaragua and considering that both Presidential and Legislative Elections are set for 2021, the Government of Nicaragua, through its representatives in the Negotiation Table, has presented the following agenda items, for the continuation of these Meetings:
1. Strengthening of the Electoral Institutions in Nicaragua through the implementation of the recommendations made by the Electoral Mission of the OAS and proposals for electoral reform to perfect free, fair and transparent electoral processes.
2. Justice and reparations to continue consolidating Peace, Security and Stability in Nicaragua.
3. Release of those incarcerated for crimes committed against the State of Nicaragua in the framework of the April 2018 criminal activities and revision of the files of persons already tried, as well as those whom have not yet faced trial, ensuring that this situation may not lead to impunity.
Continue strengthening freedom, rights and guarantees established in the Political Constitution of the Republic of Nicaragua.
4. Carry out international efforts to obtain support for the implementation of the final agreements of the negotiations and call upon the International Community to suspend all sanctions against the People of Nicaragua, in order to facilitate the right to Economic, Social and Human Development of Nicaragua, favoring the most vulnerable sectors of the population.
5. Implementation and compliance of the agreements.
As can be seen, all the important issues are on the table to assume the responsibility to continue talking, agreeing and establishing Work Schedules.
The Delegation of the Government of Nicaragua reiterates to the Nicaraguan people that this Negotiation Table for the Pursuit of Understanding and Peace in Nicaragua was established on the basis of Trust, Respect and Goodwill, which we believe should prevail. Otherwise, the Hope of the Nicaraguans and the Right of the Families of our Country to strengthen Security, Stability, Peace and Prosperity will be affected.
We reiterate to the Nicaraguan people, the unwavering commitment of the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity to promote all conditions to reach agreements on Reconciliation, Stability and Peace in our Country.
