Communique No. 8
On March 21 and 22, 2019, the eleventh and twelfth sessions of the Negotiation Table were held at the INCAE Campus. As a result of these work sessions, the following topics were agreed upon:
a. The incorporation of Mr. Luis Ángel Rosadilla as Witness and International Companion of the negotiation, on behalf of the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States.
b. The programming of the discussion agenda for the following week, beginning with the theme of strengthening citizen rights and guarantees on Monday, March 25.
c. The content of an agreement to follow up on the process of releasing prisoners and detainees in the context of the events that occurred as of April 18, 2018, in accordance with the country's legal system, for which the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has been requested.
The follow-up mechanism for the process of releasing of prisoners will begin by conciliating and updating lists of the Government, the IACHR and the Civic Alliance.
While the liberation process is underway, the parties agreed to request that the inmates be placed in the general system, that the rules established by the United Nations for the treatment of prisoners be observed and that they are allowed visits in special situations and emergency.
Today's session was attended by the Apostolic Nuncio Waldemar Stanislaw Sommertag, representative of His Holiness Pope Francis in Nicaragua and Mr. Luis Ángel Rosadilla, representative of the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States in their capacity as Witnesses and International Commun.
The negotiation has developed in an environment of mutual respect.
