The National Assembly of the Republic of Nicaragua informs the Nicaraguan People and the International Community that today, June 8, 2019, it has approved Law N °. 996, Amnesty Law.
The approval of the Law is a sovereign act of the State of Nicaragua that observes the current legal system and the international instruments to which the State of Nicaragua is Party.
The Law grants full amnesty to all persons who have participated in the events that occurred throughout the national territory from April 18, 2018 until the date in which the law enters into effect.
This Amnesty covers administrative and jurisdictional processes regarding criminal matters; orders the release of all persons detained; the cancellation of criminal records; and it includes the principle of Non Repetition as a commitment of the people benefited, so they may not repeat the acts that imply the commission of crimes contemplated in the Law.
This Amnesty Law is a contribution to the Peace and Reconciliation of the Nicaraguan family.
