Unida Nicaragua Triunfa

STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF NICARAGUA AT THE EXTRAORDINARY SESSION
OF THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE ORGANIZATION OF AMERICAN STATES

OCTOBER 24, 2019

Thank you Madam President,

The Delegation of the Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of the Republic of Nicaragua warmly welcomes the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, Ambassador Diego Pary, and the Minister of Justice Dr. Héctor Arce Zaconeta, and appreciates the complete and detailed presentation regarding the electoral process, which is of exclusive competence of the sovereign State of Bolivia.

As Organization of American States, we are obliged by what is established in the Charter of the Organization of American States, as well as by the principles of International Law, to not intervene in matters of the internal jurisdiction of Member States of this Organization and to respect the international order, which is essentially constituted by the respect for the personality, sovereignty and independence of the States and their Institutions.

We condemn the instrumentalization, for political purposes, by the Electoral Observation Mission in Bolivia which explains its precipitous report, causing severe damage to the credibility of the role they may play in future Observation or Accompaniment Missions, having overreach their functions as a technical body, and violating the principles of objectivity, impartiality and trying to set themselves above the institutions of the Bolivian State.

The OAS is not a supranational entity nor is it intended to be the censor of the political processes and the different types of democracies that exist in the region.

It was created to foster solidarity and cooperation among the American States, strengthen multilateralism, and defend the right to self-determination of any State to choose, without external interference, its political, economic and social system, and to be organized in the manner most convenient to them.

We urge the Member States of this Organization to respect the sovereign processes of each nation, in order to become agents that promote peace and security, act in good faith and without double standards in the attention of the serious problems that afflict other countries, regarding which the OAS maintains a complicit silence.

Nicaragua will continue to defend its sovereign right as a State, to live in peace, security and respect for sovereignty. We express our solidarity with the people and Government of Bolivia.

Thank you very much Madam President.
