Gobierno de Reconciliación y Unidad Nacional
Unida Nicaragua Triunfa

STATEMENT BY THE DELEGATION OF THE GOVERNMENT OF RECONCILIATION
AND NATIONAL UNITY OF THE REPUBLIC OF NICARAGUA
AT THE EXTRAORDINARY MEETING OF THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE OAS

NOVEMBER 22, 2019

Madam President,

1. The Delegation of the Republic of Nicaragua is grateful for the Statements made by Her Excellency Francince Baron, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of the Commonwealth of Dominica, her presentation describes the political situation of this sister Caribbean nation in a clear and determined manner and therefore, we take this opportunity to express our firm solidarity and affection.

2. The Republic of Nicaragua recognizes the important achievements of the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica, which under the leadership of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit´s administration has undergone profound economic, political and social transformations, with a priority focus on the most vulnerable members of society. We especially recognize the progress made toward the reconstruction of Dominica, after Hurricane Maria completely devastated the island in 2017, and it now emerges as the very first hurricane-resilient country.

3. The Delegation of Nicaragua strongly condemns the efforts made from abroad to intervene in the internal political affairs of the Commonwealth of Dominica,

disturbing the peace and instigating violence to destabilize the electoral process, which historically has been carried out in a peaceful and participatory manner in that sister Caribbean country, a fact that has been recognized by different international and regional organizations.

4. The Republic of Nicaragua also expresses its firm condemnation of the attempts made by some countries that following the script, seek to use the Organization of American States (OAS) as an instrument for interventionism in the internal and electoral political affairs of Member States, assuming attributions that have not been conferred.

5. We reiterate our full solidarity and conviction in the capacity of the electoral institutions of the Commonwealth of Dominica to carry out the electoral process on December 6, in a free, fair and transparent manner, as they have done so historically.
