NICARAGUA SPEECH ON VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN
PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE OAS
The Delegation of Nicaragua appreciates the opportunity to renew before this Forum the daily Commitment of our People, Social Movements, Community Movements, Associations, Powers of the State, and Government Institutions, to the inalienable Right of Women, to live recognized as People, as Worthy, Strong and Talented Human Beings, according to Principles and Values of our Identity and Culture.
The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity reiterates the Commitment assumed by the Sandinista Popular Revolution, from its earliest days, with the Rights of Women to protagonize with our proven Leadership, on all fronts, the Path of Just and Sovereign Development of the Valiant People of Darío and Sandino, Blanca Aráuz, Doña Mary Barreda, Arlen Siu, Idania Fernández, Illustrious Fighters and Forges of our Idiosyncrasy, History, Present and Future of our Nicaragua, Blessed and Always Free.
Nicaraguan Women have been and are, Heroic, Hardened, Warriors, Victorious, in each of the stages and circumstances that we have had to know and live, without ever abandoning the Tenderness and the Sense of Humanity, typical of our status as Women, Workers, Producers, Traders, Intellectuals, Writers,
Artists, Academics, Scientists, in short, in all spheres of life that we have decidedly contributed to improve, transform and show with Pride.
In the last decade, the undisputed Leadership of Women has assured us Equity, to reach the first places in the World. Thus we have become Intelligence, Voice and Heart of a Nicaragua that counts on each of us, to live by sharing the fruits of our Lands and the advancement of our Knowledge, of our Policies and of our Institutions in which we are exercising Authority and Capacity, for the Good of All.
In the Family, Women are also Leaders. And we are also Heads and Leaders in Politics, in the Economy, in Social Organizations, in Youth, and in the deployment of our Talents to make Nicaragua, with Responsibility and Sensitivity, the Homeland that we dream, that we desire, and that we deserve.
Global Communication, among other things, has a negative impact on our purposes of driving away Violence in Homes, Families and Communities. Added to these anti-Values, we recognize pending aspects that affect us all equally, since we have always known that harassment, mistreatment, or violence in relations between Human Beings, have never propitiated, nor will propitiate, the Justice that we all want, and need, to incorporate into our rich Cultural Heritage, our Strength and Affection, along with knowing ourselves with Capacity to influence and decide on Public, Economic and Social Policies, that our People and our Country demand.
In Nicaragua we have declared a Frontal Fight against any form of disrespect or threat to the Life of us Women, and we have demanded from our Authorities severe penalties and punishments, for those who infringe the Laws. We have demanded penalties and punishments whose rigor guarantees Non-Repetition. At the same time, we continue to make maximum cultural efforts, to convince and persuade us, learning from Home, Family and Community, that Life belongs to us all, and that we all have the Duty and the Right to respect and to be respected, with our diverse individualities, mentalities, personalities, that add value to what we already are, to make us even more tolerant, harmonious, Builders of Peace and Common Good.
Nicaraguan Women, from our Strengths and from the Historical Experience of Revolutionary Leaders, also consider acts outside Humanism and, therefore, acts of disrespect and violence against Women and Men of all ages, against Homes and Families, any form of external aggression, namely interference, intervention in our own affairs, or assault on the Good Faith and Good Heart of an entire People, pretending to deprive us of our fundamental Right to Life, Work, Security, Development, Justice and Peace.
Nicaraguan Women, always in Struggle and always Victorious, demand from this Permanent Council, a World of Dialogue, Fraternal, Respectful, Pacific, that takes into account the inviolable character of Independence and National Sovereignty, which in Nicaragua we have defended so much, and that we continue to claim and defend.
Nicaragua is Free, because it has
Daughters, Women, and Children, Families,
who love her!
