Update - Guaido Loses, War on Iran, Stopping Sanctions and Upcoming Conferences

The Strange World of Juan Guaido

Juan Guaido lost the vote last Sunday for the new president of the National Assembly. Always good for entertainment, Guaido provided some drama and the US corporate media, along with their close allies in other countries, played along. After the defeat, Guaido held his own assembly in the offices of the right-wing media outlet El Nacional, which to no one's surprise, 'elected' him. While the actual National Assembly is now doing business under the leadership of Luis Parra, Guaido is holding his own personal assembly and is still pretending to be the president of Venezuela. More details so you can counter the corporate spin are provided here.

Embassy Protectors on Tour

The four Embassy Protectors who are facing federal charges are going on tour in the lead up to their jury trial on February 11. They'll be in Florida on Jan. 18. Then they'll be in NJ, NY, PA, and CT from Jan. 24 to 28 and in Amherst, MA on February 1. More details here.

No War on Iran

Last night, Iran bombed two US military bases in Iraq in retaliation for the assassination of General Qassem Soleimani. This could quickly escalate into a dangerous tit for tat war. We urge you to contact your Members of Congress and get them to commit to no war on Iran, end the sanctions and bring our troops home from the Middle East. You can call every day until you get a commitment from them. Use this tool to make it easy to call.

There will be a mobilization at the White House today starting at 3:00 pm. There will be a live national teach-in on Iran on Saturday, Jan. 11 at 3:00 pm Eastern. Click here for details.

And the world is mobilizing for a Global Day of Action to stop the war on Iran on January 25. Find more information and register your action here.

Stop the Sanctions

The United States is using deadly sanctions against almost a third of the world's population. These sanctions, which hurt the most vulnerable by raising food prices and limiting access to medications, are illegal under international law. The new Sanctions Kill campaign is organizing to educate and mobilize to stop the sanctions. The first set of actions is March 13 to 15. Learn more here.

Solidarity with Palestine

Palestinians in Gaza have been demonstrating for their right of return every Friday for almost two years. Israeli snipers have responded to the demonstrations by murdering over 200 people, including media, medics, and children, and wounding over 18,000. Palestinians are calling for a global week of solidarity actions March 24 to 30. Find information on how to participate here.
