Gobierno de Reconciliación y Unidad Nacional
Unida Nicaragua Triunfa

STATEMENT BY THE MINISTER ADVISOR TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF NICARAGUA FOR INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND THE GREATER CARIBBEAN, COMPAÑERO VALDRACK JAENTSCHKE, AT THE UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL, GENEVA, SWITZERLAND

Your Excellency Mrs. Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Your Excellency Mrs. Elisabeth Tichy-Fisslberger, President of the Human Rights Council.

Distinguished Representatives of the Member States before this Honorable Council.

Distinguished Representatives of International Organizations.

After hearing the Third Report of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, we must remind ourselves that, since March of last year, when a Resolution on Nicaragua was imposed, our country rejected the distorted use of the alleged mechanism for the protection of Human Rights, to try to intervene in a country that has been solving, from the very root, the main inherited challenges for the integral protection of Human Rights.

We have denounced, as we once again do, the practices of systematic aggression that are replicated against a large part of the Peoples and Nations of the World, ignoring and transgressing the United Nations Charter and the Basic Principles for Respectful Coexistence between States, and that become evident in our communities with the illegal Sanctions, which are aggressions, that the Government of the United States of America continues to apply with impunity against Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua. These measures, aggressions, as we all know, threaten the Human Rights of our Peoples.

From this Forum we call on the International Community, so that together we may demand that the Government of the United States of America, suspend these Sanctions, and may contribute in this manner to the Respect of the Human Rights all Peoples, and to the attainment of Peace.

The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity of Nicaragua continues to work for the restoration of the Political, Social, Economic, Cultural and Environmental Rights of all Nicaraguans, which has been recognized by the International Community.

Take for example that Nicaragua is one of 5 Countries in the World, with the highest Gender parity. In fact, last October, UN Women recognized Nicaragua in the third place worldwide for Women in Public Offices. Gender Equality is a State Policy of the highest priority in Nicaragua and I am sure that the President of this Commission and Madam High Commissioner, will appreciate the multi-dimensional importance of these achievements.

Nicaragua continues to be, as the United Nations Organization has recognized, the Safest Country in the Region. Our Sovereign Security Strategy has ensured our peoples´ right to live in Peace, although politically malicious groups, financed and empowered from abroad, have sought to disturb the peaceful environment of our population.

In spite of the external economic aggressions, we have maintained the Fight against Poverty and achieving the Well-being of the population as a priority State Policy.

Nicaragua is committed to continue strengthening the Institutions, improving infrastructure, investing in human capital and modernizing technological preparation to promote competitiveness and decent and quality employment.

Our Model of Popular Creative Economy, based on the Principle of Inclusion of all Productive Forces in the Fight against Poverty, has protected our Economy and allowed us to recover the path of Well-being and Progress.

Our Family and Community Health and Education Programs continue to be based on the Principles of Gratuity, without discrimination, with quality and warmth, obtaining clear results and international recognition.

Madam president

Nicaragua has one of the most advanced Legislations and practices of the Hemisphere regarding the State's recognition of the Rights of its Indigenous and Afro-descendant Populations.

The State of Nicaragua has recognized and titled 23 Indigenous / Afro-descendant Territories, occupying 37 thousand square kilometers, which represents about 31% of the national territory.

The recognition of Autonomous and Territorial Rights is accompanied by the Political, Economic and Social Processes necessary to guarantee the Rights, Welfare and Security of this important population, as well as the Protection of Mother Earth, which represents their spiritual sustenance.

We continue to respect the Constitutional Order and Political Rights of all Nicaraguans. Freedom of mobilization and political expression are guaranteed for those who express themselves in Peace and without the intention of disturbing the tranquility of the population.

We are committed to continue strengthening the democratic institutionality of the Country, convinced that the Political Processes in our Society will be resolved through democratic means, including free, transparent and accompanied elections, scheduled for the month of November of the year 2021.

Madam President, Distinguished Delegates,

The Government of Reconciliation and National Unity has made significant progress in the Protection and Integral Promotion of Human Rights, which has been recognized by International Organizations, including the United Nations.

That is why we ask that the distinguished delegations reject any attempt to continue intervening in Nicaragua, through new Resolutions and Mandates, which are complicit in the Sanctions and aggressions, against our Peoples. Therefore, we call on you to pronounce yourselves against the violation of the Human Rights of the Peoples, when such Sanctions and aggressions are replicated and intensified.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH
