Last Friday (3/7) the program "Sin Fronteras", directed by journalist William Grigsby Vado, presented evidence of something that is already well known: The United States, through government agencies and related private organizations, has been financing - as it continues to do - Nicaraguan opposition groups. Between 2017 and 2018, almost U$28 million was disbursed. Especially in 2018, the main organizations that promoted and/or supported the failed coup attempt received $16 million.

Among the biggest beneficiaries were Grupo CINCO (Carlos Fernando Chamorro /Sofia Montenegro | Confidencial) with U$ 3.3 million, the Institute of Strategic Studies and Public Policy IEEPP (Felix Maradiaga) with U$ 2.1 million, Comisión Permanente de Derechos Humanos CPDH (Marcos Carmona) with U$ 2 million, Centro Nicaragüense de Derechos Humanos CENIDH (Vilma Núñez) with U$ 1 million and Grupo Ética y Transparencia (Roberto Courtney) also with U$ 1 million.

On the USAID payroll are also the Movement for Nicaragua MpN (Violeta Granera) with U$ 803 thousand, Let's Make Democracy (Luciano García) U$ 800 thousand, Violeta Barrios de Chamorro Foundation (Cristiana Chamorro) U$ 600 thousand, a supposed Peasant Movement (Medardo Mairena? ) U$ 240 thousand, the executive direction of the Civic Alliance for Justice and Democracy U$ 212 thousand, Popol Na Foundation (Mónica López Baltodano) U$ 208 thousand, Nicaraguan Association for Human Rights ANPDH (Álvaro Leiva) U$ 200 thousand and the Autonomous Women's Movement MAM with U$ 154 thousand.

Communication, electoral observation and human rights received 75% of the funds (US$ 12 million).

These are only the funds received from USAID and some other US agencies. To these should be added those that opposition organizations - including a wide range of so-called "independent media" - received from other organizations (Open Society Foundation for example), as well as from European governments and agencies.

Here is the video of the program and more details about the funding that the opposition receives and continues to receive in Nicaragua
