Nicaragua closed the week with important national and international recognition,  demonstrating that, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, the Sandinista Government's policies are effective and carried out for the benefit of the country's people.

The latest accolade Nicaragua has received was from the Central American Bank for Central American Integration (BCIE), highlighting the country's road infrastructure built by the Sandinista government.

A new $43 million loan approved by the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) to strengthen the public health system and address COVID-19 was also reported this week,

In addition, a new $20.5 million loan from the OPEC Fund for the construction of a new electrical substation in El Tortuguero and La Esperanza in the southern Caribbean to be executed by National Electric Transmission Company (ENATREL) was also approved.

A contract with the BCIE of $440 thousand for the national electric interconnection through ENATREL; good level of remittances from abroad; a report of the IADB that recognized that Nicaragua is among the four Latin American countries that invest most in health infrastructure; another report of the IADB recognized that Nicaragua occupies the fifth place in the best roads in Latin America and the first place in Central America and that poverty has been reduced in 4.7%; are all took place in Nicaragua during the week.

The World Bank recognized that Nicaragua is the country with the best transparency in the management of its public debt; that we have the smallest fiscal deficit in Central America and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) reported that despite the pandemic, Nicaragua's exports grew 14.1%.

A report by ENATREL  highlighted that Nicaragua reached 97.81% national electricity coverage at the end of June; and an exponential growth in mobile telecommunications was reported by TELCOR.

The North American company New Fortress Energy confirmed that its project to build a 300 MW gas plant in the Pacific of Nicaragua is under way and will be ready to start construction in September.

It was also announced that Russia will make available the vaccine it has already successfully tested against COVID-19 and that they could produce it at their MECHINIKOV vaccine plant in Managua.

ECLAC's new Covid-19 special report acknowledges that Nicaragua has increased its exports.

So it was the right decision by the government of President Daniel Ortega not to paralyze the country during the pandemic that is affecting the world, as other nations did who are now paying high social and economic costs.

Alicia Bárcena, executive secretary of the ECLAC, explained that Nicaragua benefited from the rise in the price of gold and the volume of exports of agricultural and livestock products such as coffee, sugar cane, beans and tobacco, among others.
