Nicaragua's opposition often claim they had majority support in Nicaragua during their violent failed coup attempt of 2018. To the contrary, they have never had majority support since 2010 when President Ortega and his government team pulled Nicaragua out of the world recession with levels of growth only exceeded in neighboring countries by Panama.

Nicaragua's violent opposition themselves posted hundreds of videos on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram of their abuse and torture of Sandinista supporters during the failed coup attempt between April and July 2018. They hoped by doing so to intimidate Sandinista supporters. In fact all they did was deepen the determination of the Sandinista majority in Nicaragua to defeat the coup and vindicate the Sandinista government
